Treating cancer doesn’t have to be done by the standard forms of chemotherapy, radiation or surgery. These are not the only options for cancer treatments. A general treatment may not be the correct treatment for the patient. Personalized care also known as precision medicine is becoming the standard of treatment for many oncologist and care facilities. Precision medicine basically targets the patient’s health and formulates treatment or therapy designed specifically for that patient. For cancer patients the treatment therapy would be based on several factors that include genetics, lifestyle, demographics and environment.
Immunotherapies
Immunotherapies are emerging as positive therapies for cancer treatment. One of these therapies, the CAR T Cell Therapy (Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-Cell therapy) was a recently approved immunotherapy against cancer. What makes this therapy so encouraging is that it utilizes the patient’s own white blood cells and technology to modify the patient’s cells to fight off the cancerous masses. The therapy is based on attacking a specific protein in the tumor, multiplying, recognizing and killing off the cancerous cells present in the body. It is the technology of the future.
